Vinous
93/100
Considering the ten years that the 2013 Piante a Lapio has rested in the winery before release, the vibrant yellow-gold color alone is stunning. Its aromatics impress even more, blending roasted almond and hazelnut with honeyed florals and crushed yellow apple. It smooths over the palate, weighty yet lifted and distinctly savory, with a slight tropical citrus profile complicated by depths of saline minerals and hints of rum raisin, yet not sweet by any scope of the imagination. The 2013 tapers off with tension, and young peach and dried apricot nuances stick around. The Piante a Lapio is a serious meditation wine, produced from 80-to-100-year-old Fiano vines and matured in a mix of chestnut and acacia casks for five years. It’s a stunning wine for the more adventurous palate.
